Global Collaborations Map

The ICR Global Foundation selected the UK’s Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) as its first funding priority based on the excellence of its research and global impact of its scientists’ findings.
Several of the ICR’s key studies are themselves global in nature. The following map illustrates the geographic breadth of two ICR-led studies related to prostate cancer, PRACTICAL and IMPACT. Dr. Ros Eeles, the ICR’s Reader in Clinical Cancer Genetics, is the principal investigator for both studies.
The IMPACT study is an international trial investigating men who have alterations in their BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes and who may be at a higher risk of developing prostate cancer. The study is trying to see whether regular PSA screening for the disease will detect more aggressive prostate cancers that need earlier treatment.
PRACTICAL is an international consortium that gives researchers access to genetic samples from large numbers of prostate cancer patients. This collaboration is helping scientists find and evaluate potential prostate cancer risk genes more quickly, bringing the prospect of a comprehensive screening test and new treatments closer to reality.
