The ICR Graduate Program

The ICR graduate program

The ICR Graduate Program is an incubator for bright young scientists who will one day lead the fight against cancer. The Program has been selected as the primary beneficiary of the Innovation Fund because it provides a fertile training ground where students are challenged to pursue their intellectual curiosity while honing basic science research skills.

The Innovation Fund supports ICR graduate students, their professors and the equipment needed to complete their studies and research.

Key Facts about the ICR Graduate Program

  • Competitive admissions - Only 7% of its high-caliber applicants are accepted
  • Optimal class size - Student to professor ratio is 3:1
  • Track record of success - 100% success rate with PhD submissions (as of 2009)
  • Academic excellence - Recently ranked as the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary academic institution in terms of the quality of its research – ahead of Oxford, Cambridge, and every other UK university (Source: The Times Higher Education’s assessment of the UK’s 2008 Research Assessment Exercise)
  • Prestigious alumni - ICR alumni hold key appointments at many of the world’s top cancer institutions, including Harvard Medical School and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

Strategic partnerships enhancing the student experience

The ICR is a member of the University of London federation, along with renowned institutions of higher education such as the London School of Economics and King’s College London.

The ICR shares a unique partnership with the Royal Marsden Hospital, giving students the opportunity to move fundamental research to patient benefit more quickly than at peer institutions.
