Our Board of Directors
The mission of the ICR Global Foundation is to provide funding and a network of global supporters for the world’s best cancer research organizations, in hopes of reaching the day when people may live free from the fear of cancer as a life threatening disease.
The Board of Directors leads our work in fulfilling this mission by serving as the governing body of the ICR Global Foundation. Directors have a deep conviction about the positive impact of cancer research and serve as leadership donors to the ICR Global Foundation. They also use their professional and educational experiences to guide the Foundation.
Aundrea Amine
“We all, the world over, know someone affected by cancer: a friend, colleague, neighbor or loved one. To be able to change this grim statistic is an inspirational and ambitious goal of the ICR. They have the knowledge and structure to make this happen and to be able to be involved with the ICR through the Global Foundation in this endeavor is something that is hugely important to me; not only in my compassion for the many who suffer from cancer but also because I have personal family experience with the devastation cancer can wreak. Let’s change this for the future.”
Mrs. Amine has served as the Finance Vice President on the Board of Directors of the Junior League of London, a UK charity that has served the London community for 25 years. Her professional experience includes Hospitality Management, Hotel Marketing and Sales Management for a Hotel Group. She has a BS in Psychology with a minor in Business from Northeastern University.
Francine Lynch
“A few years ago, my law firm lost its founder, Earl L. Neal to cancer. He was my mentor, he taught me how to be an attorney, and I worked for him and with him for over twenty five years. Cancer does not seem to play fair; some live and some do not. When you lose someone close to you, someone who has been an important part of your life for two decades, the impact of cancer really hits home. I believe that the eradication of cancer will be based on cutting-edge technology and knowledge not used in or being considered by mainstream. That is why I support the principles of the ICR Global Foundation. We live in a global society and we must pool our resources for the benefit and better of humankind.”
Ms. Lynch is a Senior Associate at Neal & Leroy, LLC, one of the oldest minority owned and operated law firms in the United States. She concentrates her practice in the areas of real estate, zoning, development and land use, estate and trust as well as probate and mortgage foreclosure. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She has served as an instructor for the Cook County Bar Association Bar Preparation Program was previously an arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Board.
Ms. Lynch is a former member of the Board of the Young Professional Group of Jackson Park Hospital and a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America. She earned her BA at Elmhurst College and her JD at John Marshall Law School.
Karen Greve Young -
Mrs. Greve Young has led the ICR Global Foundation since its inception. Her experience includes management consultancy at Bain & Company, corporate strategy at Gap Inc. and mergers and acquisitions at Robertson, Stephens & Company. She also served as President and Chair of the Board of the Junior League of London.
In 2003, Mrs. Greve Young founded and chaired the “Breaking the Silence” series for the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), raising awareness and £250,000 (over $400,000) in research funding for so called “silent cancers”.
“I lost my mother to ovarian cancer when I was expecting my first child. Given her late diagnosis, I am grateful that she survived cancer for more than four years and was able to share the first months of my pregnancy with me. One of her most effective treatments was carboplatin, a drug that represents one of the many groundbreaking successes of the ICR. As a result, I credit ICR scientists with the bonus years my mother and I shared. The ICR Global Foundation gives Americans the opportunity to support the ICR and other leading global cancer centers with the same tax benefits available for donations to US centers.”
Mrs. Greve Young holds an AB with honors in Economics from Harvard College and an MBA with honors from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
Sara Niedringhaus
“I first learned about the Institute of Cancer Research through an event hosted by Karen Young to raise awareness about so-called Silent Cancers. The topic felt very relevant to me because I lost my only aunt to pancreatic cancer. She always felt that there was potentially a treatment or a cure on the shelf somewhere that wasn't getting funding because pancreatic cancer doesn't have the same awareness levels of, say, breast cancer. I was very moved by the way in which the ICR bases its research not on what special interest groups are demanding, but on what is going to generate the best results.”
Mrs. Niedringhaus is the President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Junior League of London, a UK charity whose 400 volunteer women members serve as catalysts for positive change throughout London, working collaboratively with over 30 community partners such as schools, community centers, and other non-profit organizations. She has previously served as the organization’s Membership Vice President and Community Research Director. Mrs. Niedringhaus received her BA in English and Communications from Tulane University.
Anne Wade
“I have been involved with the ICR since 2005 through the Breaking the Silence fundraising initiative. Like most people, my life has been touched by cancer through the experiences of both my immediate family and close friends. The ICR is of particular importance to me because I am amazed and impressed by its effectiveness on a global scale, particularly in light of its size relative to top US centers.”
Ms. Wade is a Director of GuideStar International, and of Advance, a London Domestic Violence advocacy charity for which she also serves as Treasurer. She has served as a consultative reader for New Philanthropy Capital and spent seven years on the investment committee for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
She is a Director and Senior Vice President with Capital International, part of the Capital Group Companies. She has worked for Capital since 1995 as an equity research analyst responsible for investments in global infrastructure stocks.
